Common questions about our mats

Do the mats include a carry bag?

Yes, all of our mats (excluding doormats and runners) come with a fully enclosed, oversized carry bag.

Our bags are designed to keep dirt contained after pack up, not spread through your vehicle. Being fully enclosed also makes storage cleaner and helps protect your mat from dust and vermin.

If your mat needs to air out, simply leave the bag open. An enclosed bag gives you both options — sealed when you want everything contained, or open when you need ventilation.

After more than 15 years in the industry, we’ve found this small detail makes a big difference.

Are your mats allowed in caravan parks?

Our mats are made from breathable, woven recycled plastic that allows air and light to pass through to the surface underneath, so they won’t suffocate grass when used correctly.

However, caravan parks are independently owned, and each park has its own rules, so we always recommend checking with the park directly.

It’s worth noting that the majority of caravan parks have concrete slabs, which our mats are perfect for. Parks without slabs are often dirt or gravel sites, where a mat is definitely handy.

On the rare occasion you’re lucky enough to have a lush green grass site and the park prefers no matting at all, then simply enjoy the grass!

Are the mats suitable for use on sand/at the beach?

Yes! That’s one of their biggest benefits.

Our mats feature a tight, breathable weave that allows fine sand and dirt to work their way through rather than sit on top. At the same time, the weave is tight enough that sand, dirt and mud underneath won’t easily come back up through the mat when you’re walking on it.

This makes them ideal for beach camping and sandy sites. Heavier debri,s such as leaves or clumps of dirt, will remain on top and can easily be swept or blown off.

Are the mats waterproof or breathable?

Our mats are designed to be breathable and water-resistant.

They are made from woven recycled plastic, which allows water to drain through rather than pool on top. Unlike solid vinyl or canvas mats, they won’t trap moisture underneath.

In normal conditions, mud and dirt underneath will not come up through the mat thanks to the tight weave. However, in extreme wet or muddy conditions, some water may come through (but not mud)— as the mat is intentionally designed to breathe.

This breathable construction is what makes them caravan park-friendly and suitable for a wide range of surfaces.

Do the mats have eyelets?

Yes. All of our mats feature heavy-duty copper anodised eyelets for secure pegging.

Eyelet numbers vary by size:

  • 1.8m mat – 4 eyelets
  • 2.4m mat – 4 eyelets
  • 3m mat – 4 eyelets
  • 4m mat – 6 eyelets
  • 5m mat – 8 eyelets
  • 6m mat – 8 eyelets
  • 7m mat – 8 eyelets
  • L-Shape mat – 8 eyelets

With over 15 years of experience, we’ve found copper anodised eyelets to perform better and last longer than standard stainless steel options.

For the most secure hold, especially in windy conditions, we recommend using screw pegs.

crew pegs can be purchased separately, or you can check out our bundle deals for added value.

Are your mats made from certified recycled plastic?

Yes. Our mats are made from certified recycled plastic that meets the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).

This certification ensures the recycled materials are verified and responsibly sourced. By using recycled plastic, the mats help divert waste from waterways and landfill while still delivering a strong, practical surface for camping and caravanning.

What does GRS Certified recycled plastic mean?

GRS stands for the Global Recycled Standard, an internationally recognised certification that verifies products are made from recycled materials and produced responsibly.

It ensures recycled content is tracked, environmental practices are followed, and safe chemical and social standards are met throughout the manufacturing process.

This means when you choose our mats, you’re supporting verified recycled materials and transparent production practices.

Choosing the right mat

What size mat do I need?

Most of our mats are 2.4m wide, which suits the majority of caravan and camper awnings.

As a general guide:

  • 10–12ft awning → 3m mat
  • 13–17ft awning → 4m mat
  • 18–20ft awning → 5m mat
  • 21ft+ awning → 6m mat

There is no right or wrong size; it simply comes down to your preference and how much coverage you would like under your awning. Some customers prefer a neat fit within the awning arms, while others choose to size up for extra living space.

Can I order a customised mat with my own logo or image on it?

Depends.

We can produce custom mats for businesses, clubs and events; however, a minimum order of 20 units applies.

Because our mats are woven (not surface printed), they must be manufactured to order. This means we’re unable to produce one-off custom mats.

If you’re enquiring for a business or an event, feel free to contact us, and we’ll happily discuss options, noting that we need at least 3 months lead time for a custom design.

Are thicker camping mats better?

Not necessarily. Thickness isn’t always the best indicator of quality or performance. A well-designed recycled plastic mat can still be strong, durable and comfortable while remaining lightweight and easy to pack away. This makes them more practical for travel, storage and reducing towing weight when caravanning.

Why choose a recycled plastic camping mat instead of cheaper alternatives?

Not all camping mats are made to the same standard. Factors like certified recycled materials, UV stabilisation, stitching quality and reinforced eyelets all contribute to how well a mat performs over time.

Investing in a well-made mat can mean better durability, easier cleaning and longer life outdoors.

Are recycled plastic mats as strong as virgin plastic mats?

Yes. High-quality recycled plastic mats are designed to be just as durable as mats made from new plastic.

When woven properly and UV stabilised, recycled materials can provide excellent strength, flexibility and longevity for caravanning and camping use.

How do I know if a recycled plastic mat is genuinely recycled?

Look for recognised certifications such as the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). This certification verifies the recycled content of a product and ensures responsible environmental and manufacturing practices are followed throughout production.

Looking after your mat

How do I fold my mat correctly?

Our mats are designed to fold along the original fold lines — just like a hinge. One goes one way and one the other, like a concertina.

When packing up, always fold the mat with the existing fold lines, not against them. Folding the mat the wrong way can cause separation along the folds and may damage the weave over time.

If you’re unsure, look for the natural fold direction and follow it. The mat should fold easily without resistance.

Folding incorrectly or forcing the mat against the fold lines can void warranty, so taking a moment to fold it properly will help ensure years of use.

If you’re unsure, please visit our Packing Your Mat page for a video demonstration showing exactly how to fold it correctly.

Can I cut or trim my mat?

No. We do not recommend cutting or resizing your mat.

Our mats are manufactured to specific sizes, and cutting the mat can compromise the structure and void the warranty.

However, if you notice a loose or broken fibre, this is not a fault. Due to the tight weave, you can simply trim the loose fibre flush with scissors and the weave will naturally settle back into place with use.

Trimming a stray fibre will not cause the mat to unravel.

How do I clean my recycled plastic camping mat?

Cleaning your mat is simple. Most dirt, sand and debris can be removed with a broom, blower or a quick hose down.

For heavier dirt, use mild soapy water and gently scrub with a soft broom before rinsing. Allow the mat to dry completely in the sun before storing to keep it fresh and in great condition.

You can find out more on our cleaning your mat page.

Will the recycled plastic mats fade in the sun?

Our quality recycled plastic mats are UV stabilised to help reduce fading and maintain their appearance over time. While all outdoor products experience some natural wear, UV protection helps extend the life of the mat in Australian conditions.

This warranty excludes faults and failures caused by improper use and abuse; fair wear and tear; acts of nature that are beyond the product's specifications, including excessive use of the mat in direct sunlight; or failure to follow instructions regarding usage, care or maintenance. Commercial use is not covered by this warranty.

Please note that minor loose threads or short threads are normal and are NOT a manufacturer's defect and do not / will not compromise the product in any way.

Most loose threads can be snipped off or tucked into the weave.
